This is probably worth mentioning. Douglas Trumbull will introduce "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the NFT in London in July. For dates, please see http://www.in70mm.com/now_showing/index.htm Trumbull is also known for directing "Brainstorm" in 65mm: http://www.in70mm.com/news/2008/brainst.../index.htm -

We can talk Danish if you like - some German people understand Viking sounds very well. Thanks Herbert, for the nizze words, but my German is almost limited to buying beers and stamps, and make my way around in Germany in a fairly understandabale way - in German. I do try to follow the Forum in German, and I do try to practice in Karlsruhe. So please be patient Please continue in German of course, I will post in English - maybe in German if I can. Thanks for your consideration. ;-) PS Herbert also have Danish genes - some funny one too -

Yes, same print as seen in Malmø a few years ago - not a good advocate for "The Splendour of 70mm" - terrible print. Should only be played with a big warning and free of charge. -

We borrowed the Swedish DZ 70mm print in 2008 for a showinging in Copenhagen - and it is NOT suitable for showing for a paying audience any more. It is very faded, scratched and put together from several prints. Not nice to see Sir David's masterpiece like this On another note more lighter note, the "Christian Radich" is in Copenhagen right now, see: http://www.in70mm.com/news/2010/radich/index.htm The CR is the star from "Windjammer" -

Widescreen Weekend, Bradford, UK - März 2010

"....just remember how the first Cinermiracle was projected, the projector were into the theater, without booth." "Windjammer" wasn't shown like described at the Chinese and the ROXY April 8, 1958, nor anyone else I imagine, except mayby in open fields in Congo. In Denmark, "Windjammer" toured several large halls, and all 4 projectors and the dubber where installed in a 40" container, with projection windows, electricity, water, ventilation etc. In the Cinemiracle's HQ at Mt. Eden in New York, the projectors were in the "theatre", just like in Cinerama's HQ in Oyster Bay. But that wasn't a theatre - it was a room converted into a studio for the production of the film. -

For accuracy, I recieved an e-mail from Mr. Grosmenil on 20th of July 2005 proposing "Two hours in USSR" and "USSR at open Heart" for Bradford's 2006 Widescreen Weekend in 3-strip Kinopanorama. Excited about showing Kinopanorama again, and after consulting with the museum's projection team and management, we accepted the conditions put forward by Mr. Grosmenil. All seemed fine until he changed the conditions a month later in August 2005. After several e-mails with him, we decided not to go ahead with Kinopanorama on 2nd September 2005. A 1996 picture of French Kinopanorama prints in storage in a summerhouse outside Paris can be seen in this article: http://www.in70mm.com/news/2003/kinopan...astity.htm -

Your conclusions about non-US 70mm films in Bradford are wrong. Very proud to have shown at least two DEFA 70 films over the years and "Cinerama's Russian Adventure". We have been blessed with many good contacts who have come to us with 70mm prints which we have shown - no one, however, have ever addressed me about Russian 70mm prints. As you know we tried to do some Kinopanorama arrangement in 2005, wiith a group of people who showed no understanding of how a professional 3-strip cinema is operated. We had to abandon the idea, much to our regret. Preparing and showing 3-strip prints is very time consuming and requires experience and time which only a few projection crew have these days. We were very interested in showing Kinopanorama in Bradford, but the conditions we were asked to comply with, were simply impossible to meet. -

"The Alamo" ... neue 70mm Kopie?
Thomas Hauerslev antwortete auf preston sturges's Thema in Nostalgie
Thanks to the work of Bob Harris, we can now all enjoy 3 majestic 70mm films again - if it was not for his work, they would all be lost, and the awareness of restoring films would still be many years behind. Bob and Schauwn Belston (Fox) both posess "Star Quality" in the restoring industry, but there are MANY people working in that field today, as all major studios have realised how valuable their library of films are. They should all be thanked every day for keeping film history alive. First of all, many thanks for the interest in Bradford's Widescreen Weekend. I hope to see many of you in Bradford in a month from now. I think the program is very exciting this year with a nice mix between old and new and between film and the new exciting digital frontier. We have some interesting guests, and just yesterday Mr. Derren Nesbitt confirmed his presence on the Friday evening. @Cinerama is asking what I think about it - please write in English (or Danish) if you want an answer. I'm not quite sure what he means, but I am very excited to be able to present the program, and together with my co-programmers Duncan McGregor and Bill Lawrence, I'm sure it will please many people. The response so far is very positive. It will be another weekend with moving pictures on both screens in digital, 35mm, 70mm and 6-track sound. I'm personally excited to see what "How the West Was Won" looks like on the curve in the new digital version. It looks extremely promising when we now - finally - can see the film without the join lines as "Cinerama out of one hole". I will continue to post on the festival page until the weekend, so have a look at it from time to time. Again, thank you all for the interest in the Widescreen Weekend. -

I have just returned from a few days in Berlin. I was invited by Connie Betz to join the “70mm Retrospective” along with a large number of German and international friends of 70mm. It was a great honour to be invited to the Berlinale. An invitation I happily had accepted. I must say that you should all be very, very proud of the event. The 70mm Retrospective is without question the best thing that has happened to the 70mm format in many years. Following many years of hard work in Bradford and Karlsruhe, keeping 70mm alive, there is nothing better than full blown Berlinale EXPOSURE - an important A festival. The recognition of the format and its history done by the Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum für Film und Fernsehen for 10 full days, is not to be underestimated. The popularity of 70mm has not gone unnoticed as the news about 70mm retrospective have been posted in an unusual high number of newspapers and internet publications since the first press release went out in October last year. 70mm is as popular as ever, which was also evident in Berlin. Many shows were sold out, as the news of the classic films with their high resolution images and multichannel sound spread across town. People simply WANT to see 70mm films again and again, and I'm sure the 70mm retrospective was a most welcome event by a large majority of Berlin's rutined film goers. On top of the 70mm program, a large 70mm retrospective book publication has been published, several seminars and lectures held, including a reception on Tuesday evening for VIP's including actress Hannelore Bollmann and of course many German and international friends of 70mm. We can only hope more studios will take notice of the “70mm Retrospective” and follow in the footsteps of 20th Century Fox and re-print all their 65mm negatives and re-release the films in new 70mm prints with wonderful crystal clear DTS sound. Fox’ new 70mm prints of “Hello, Dolly!” and “Cleopatra”, to name a few, have never looked or sounded better - and everybody seem to appreciate that. In fact Fox's new 70mm prints are so popular, that reprinting of some 70mm titles is starting soon thanks to increasing demand. Don't forget to support the next 70mm festivals in Bradford, Copenhagen, Karlsruhe, Krnov and Oslo to name a few. It has been a huge undertaking to organize this large number of screenings in such a short time. Chief organizer Connie Betz and her staff have done an enormous amount of planning to make all this happen. She is to be congratulated for all the work she has done for 70mm, it has been a good vitamin boost for the LARGE FORMAT film we all love. Thank you for that. Well done!
